Molly Tuttle launches covers album, debuts rendition of FKA Twigs’ Mirrored Heart
…But I’d Rather Be With You also collects covers of The National, The Rolling Stones and Rancid.

Molly Tuttle’s new covers album …But I’d Rather Be With You officially released last Friday (28 August). To commemorate its launch, the bluegrass singer shared the record’s latest single: a rendition of FKA Twigs’ Mirrored Heart.

Mirrored Heart is one of the 10 cover tunes that make up …But I’d Rather Be With You, which also includes renditions of The National’s Fake Empire, The Rolling Stones’ She’s A Rainbow and Olympia, WA by Rancid.
In a press release, Tuttle praised the FKA Twigs Magdalene, and shared why she specifically chose to cover Mirrored Heart.
“I absolutely love the whole album, Magdalene,” she said. “But this song stood out to me specifically. It totally brings me back to my first heartbreak. FKA twigs really nails the feeling of not being seen and accepted by the one you love.”
The recording of …But I’d Rather Be With You took place during lockdowns for COVID-19. Tuttle taught herself Pro Tools, in order to carry out the album’s sessions in her own home. “For this album, I turned the lights out in my room and recorded all the vocal, guitar, and harmony vocals myself,” she said.
“We decided not to add anything or anyone else to it, which felt fitting since the song [Mirrored Heart] is so intimate. I read a quote of her [FKA Twigs] saying she can’t get through it without crying, and even though I didn’t write it I found myself tearing up while singing it as well – music is wild like that!”
But I’d Rather Be With You is available now in CD, vinyl and digital formats.
