Following My Bloody Valentine’s signing to Domino Recording Company, the band have announced that they have two new full-length albums in the works.

Through Domino, the shoegaze legends have made their back-catalogue available on streaming services. They’ve also announced “fully analogue” vinyl reissues of their material.

In a new interview in The New York Times, guitarist and vocalist Kevin Shields revealed the band’s intentions to record two new LPs. “Our original plan was we would record both the albums back-to-back and then go tour on that,” he said, before noting how the global pandemic impacted things. “And that would have been this year, you know, but everything really did slow down.”

Shields also discussed the band’s choice to depart from Sony, who had previously managed their back-catalogue. “We definitely wanted to work with an independent label, opposed to a major,” he said. “Domino was the ultimate kind of independent setup – they have as many facilities as most majors, but they’re owned by one person.”

Until today (31 March 2021), none of the band’s albums have been available digitally – quite rare for a band of their popularity. Shields discussed this elsewhere in the interview, saying that: “My nieces and nephews – they would complain to me, because when they would try and show their friends, they can’t find it anywhere. They’re like, ‘Why are you so purposely obscure? You know, it seems stupid.’ That kind of stuff that made me think, ‘Yeah, I guess my perception of the world isn’t the world.’ There’s a whole world out there I know nothing about.”
