In tandem with National Voter Registration Day in the US, My Morning Jacket have announced a new 7″ release for their single Bring the Power Back Home.
The song originally appeared on the compilation Good Music To Avert The Collapse of American Democracy, released for a limited-time-only Bandcamp Friday. The vinyl pressing is, appropriately enough, limited to 2020 copies. The B side is an acoustic version of Bring the Power Back Home.
My Morning Jacket frontman Jim James said of the release in a statement: “Bring The Power Back Home is about taking control of your own destiny, reclaiming one’s personal power in an effort to bring positive change back to our lives, even if it seems that the good in the world is slipping out of our grasp. Positive change and progress is still possible. One of the best ways we can reclaim and use our power for good right now is to VOTE like our lives depend on it, because they do.”
The band posted a short teaser of the song on twitter – take a listen below.

The release follows that of the band’s latest album, The Waterfall II. In a 4-star review, Guitar.com described it as “A soothing tonic to the disorientating times we live in that’s affecting, stylistically diverse and more reflective in tone than its predecessor.”
The single is available for a “pay what you can” price between $10 and $25, and can be ordered here.
