Neil Young and Crazy Horse have released Milky Way, the lead single from their upcoming album Colorado, out 25 October.

According to Rolling Stone, Young has performed the new track on multiple occasions, both in a solo acoustic setting and with American country group, Promise Of The Real. The new album, however, marks the first time Crazy Horse have “tackled” Milky Way, reports RS.

The release comes as a surprise. Just a couple of weeks ago, Young announced on his Archives website that the band were preparing to drop the track Rainbow Of Colors instead. “Billy, Ralphia, Nils and I are all very happy to bring this song Rainbow of Colors to you in all its ragged glory, as my original producer and life-long friend, the late David Briggs once said,” the rocker wrote.

It is unclear when Rainbow Of Colors will arrive, but pre-orders for Colorado are now open. Young is also set to release Mountaintop Sessions, a CK Vollick-directed documentary that charts the making of the album. It is only one of 15 film projects Young is working on at the moment.
