Despite Noel’s praise for the musician, Johnny Rotten still refuses to talk directly to brother Liam.

Noel Gallagher has referred to Sex Pistol’s Johnny Rotten as one of the best Brits of all time, calling him an “absolute hero”.

In what could be interpreted as a further snub to other Gallagher brother, Liam, Noel explained in an interview with Jo Whiley on BBC Radio 2 that Rotten, AKA John Lydon, did not take a shine to Liam. This was briefly before he referred to him as “one of the great British people of all times”.

Of course, these two factors could be a complete coincidence, but Liam and Noel’s exceptionally public feud might lead fans to think otherwise.

“We had a funny – well, the night before we met Burt Bacharach, uh, we end up in this hotel with [John Lydon] and Rambo. And for some reason, [Lydon] didn’t take a shine to Liam. Liam was sat beside him, and I was sat beside Liam, and he kept leaning over to ask me questions about Liam but wouldn’t ask Liam. He’s gonna say to me, ‘Ask your singer if he likes wearing makeup,” explained Gallagher.

“As you can imagine, [Liam didn’t take it] very well. And he was being so sarcastic towards him and has remained sarcastic towards him to this very day. But he’s great, John. One of my absolute heroes. A lovely, lovely man, much misunderstood, of course. Sweetheart and a genius and one of the great British people of all time.”

Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds’ fourth studio album Council Skies comes out on 2 June 2023.
