Paul Stanley on what makes Billie Eilish’s music great: “This is a real person singing something”

Paul Stanley has shared his opinions on the current generation of music artists, heaping praise onto Billie Eilish and even comparing her to legendary soul singer Otis Redding.

The Kiss frontman gave his thoughts during a recent appearance on Inside With Paulo Baron, where he was asked about new artists he and his children enjoyed listening to. Billie Eilish was one of them.

“What’s great about Billie Eilish? You listen, because you go, ‘This is a real person singing something’,” he said. “[It’s like] when you heard Otis Redding singing Try a Little Tenderness or Respect, there’s a person singing, and you went, ‘More, more, tell me. So that’s what makes music great.’”

Stanley also touched on the positives of listening to more genres than one, saying, “The more you love variety, the more exciting things are.”

“Look, when people go, ‘I only listen to one kind of music,’ that’s like saying, ‘I only eat hamburgers,” he explained. “I never understood that mentality.”

This isn’t the first time Eilish has garnered the admiration of rock artists. Last year, producer-musician Butch Vig posited the 19-year-old musician was contemporary music’s answer to Nirvana.

“Billie speaks for a whole generation of youth, much like Nirvana did with their zeitgeist moment,” Vig told NME in an interview.
