Phoebe Bridgers calls Loma Vista dropping Marilyn Manson after public allegations “performative activism” when “people have known about it for so long”

Phoebe Bridgers has discussed the fallout from recent extensive allegations of abuse made against Marilyn Manson, and criticised his label Loma Vista for dropping him only after the public controversy.
Earlier this month, after Manson was dropped by Loma Vista, Bridgers took to Twitter to express solidarity with those that came forward and say that “the label knew, management knew, the band knew … pretending to be shocked and horrified is fucking pathetic.”

She has now elaborated on her comments in a new interview with CNN, saying: “ think it’s very funny that Marilyn Manson’s label decided to drop him right when the story went public, and people have just known about it for so long. I find that very annoying. I think it’s a lot of performative activism, basically.
“I think people should take more responsibility internally. It doesn’t matter how many people know about it. You should look into things like you’re the FBI.
“But when people make people money, it’s really hard – I know – it’s really hard to walk away from that. But I think more people should.”
Last Week, Wolf Alice’s Ellie Rowsell accused Manson of filming up her skirt, and said that there “were no repercussions for his behaviour, his tour manager simply said ‘he does this kind of thing all the time.’” She also asked if this was the case “why on earth has he been headlining festivals for so many years?”
Since allegations against Manson were first made by actor Evan Rachel Wood earlier this month, Manson has been widely condemned by other musicians, dropped by his manager and axed from two TV roles. Manson has denied the allegations, describing them as “horrible distortions of reality”.
