Plini on pushing songwriting boundaries: “when I’m first fumbling around with an idea, to me it sounds horrible”

Guitar.com Live: we sat down for a chat with Plini, where he told us about how he approaches songwriting. Plini’s music is intricately woven together, creating a genre-defying, beautiful guitar-driven sound.

“When I’m first fumbling around with an idea, to me it sounds horrible,” he said. “Like staring into an abyss and you see a tiny bit of light, and you just pursue the light – and hope that, when you get there, it’s good.”

“That’s how a song emerges for me. There’s not much magic or complexity in where it starts. It could be an E Major chord – but then all the piling different things on top of it to the point where that original chord isn’t there.”

“That’s where it gets to the point where you have to listen to it a few times to figure out what’s happening – because the thing that was originally happening isn’t there anymore.”
