Psychedelic Porn Crumpets have announced that they will release a new album nexy year, entitled SHYGA! The Sunlight Mound. The announcement follows the release of the single Mr Prism in August, and comes alongside that of the latest single from the release, Tally-Ho. You can take a listen to the new track below:

Band frontman Jack McEwan explains the song’s inspiration: “Tally-Ho reenacts the classic fable of late night gonzo talks on copious amounts of chemical enthusiasm. I wanted the lyrics to feel sporadic and impulsive, kinda like the conversation you’d have with a mate after a night out; where you just want to debate something, but most of your synapses are already fried, so you’re both blurting out gibberish, but really giving it a good go at sounding formal.

“A sober third party might assume you’re both morons but between the constant waves of inebriated dialogue you feel like you’ve activated God mode and are only a few online classes away from becoming a favoured politician that will solve all the world’s problems.”

McEwan also spoke about his updated approach to songwriting since the nixing of the band’s touring plans thanks to the pandemic: “For the first time in a long time I was home without any tours booked, no work, no deadlines and I felt free to create. My writing process became ritualistic; every morning starting with a small walk to the local bottle shop at 11 AM and writing whatever flowed, allowing myself to design in all styles without boundaries, and not trying to theme the album early on.

“I haven’t had the luxury of writing this way since the first record, which I spent almost a year working on. It felt like I was myself again, creating without opinion or constraints. I was gliding through weeks with a day seeming to pass.”

SHYGA! The Sunlight Mound will arrive on 5 February 2021, and can be preordered here. It will be the band’s fourth LP, following High Visceral parts one and two, and last year’s And Now for the Whatchamacallit
