Brian May has undergone eye surgery for an undisclosed reason, sharing a string of posts on social media to document the experience.

The 73-year-old announced on Instagram yesterday (20 May) that he was going for “a little bit of eye surgery”, writing that the procedure would be a “piece o’ cake”. He said it would improve his “focus” and his “stereoscopic vision” – likely alluding to the stereoscopic book titles he’s released recently.

Although he didn’t explicitly mention the reason for the surgery, May told fans he was having the procedure done on just his left eye.

Later that same day, May made a post-procedure post to report that the surgery went well. “I really didn’t feel a thing,” he wrote. “It was all done with local anaesthetic and a tiny bit of sedation – so I was conscious throughout the whole thing – and fascinated by this amazing procedure.”

Last May, the legendary Queen guitarist revealed he was hospitalised after suffering a heart attack and reported himself to have been in a state “very near death”. After deliberating treatment options, May went with stents in lieu of a triple-bypass.
