Slipknot have decided to postpone Knotfest Japan due to concerns surrounding the COVID-19 virus.

The event was originally set to take place on 20 and 21 March in the Chiba prefecture, just outside of Tokyo. The metal icons announced the news early on 5 March via Twitter: “In light of global health concerns, Slipknot have decided to postpone their upcoming Asian tour including Knotfest Japan,” the statement read. “While decisions like this are not easy, the safety and well-being of the band’s fans always come first.”

Other acts that were billed for Knotfest Japan included Korn, Marilyn Manson, Babymetal, Coldrain, Trivium, Anthrax, Man With A Mission and more. New dates for the event have yet to be announced, but Knotfest Japan organisers have released a statement on their website saying they are “working with Slipknot and their management team on the new dates and will provide updates”.

The effects of COVID-19 continue to ripple through the music industry. As of March, numerous acts postponed or cancelled shows because of the virus, including Green Day, The National, Whitesnake and more.

Earlier this week, it was announced that Europe’s biggest musical instrument trade fair, Musikmesse, has been postponed as well. It was set to take place in Frankfurt, Germany from 1 to 4 March, but the spread of the virus across the continent has forced organisers to hit pause on the event indefinitely.
