Smashing Pumpkins announce sequel album to Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness, Machina
Billy Corgan also says that the band are planning a “full-on” arena tour of Mellon Collie.

The Smashing Pumpkins have confirmed that a sequel album to Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness and Machina/The Machines Of God is on the way.
Yesterday (22 October), frontman Billy Corgan took to YouTube to confirm that the band are working to release the 33-song album in late 2021.
“It’s a sequel to Mellon Collie… and Machina,” Corgan explained, adding that the album would complete a trilogy.
“It’s kind of a rock opera,” he said. “We feel like in many ways this completes the circle on everything we started and weren’t able to finish at that time, so we’re very excited about [it].”
Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness was released in the UK on 23 October 1995 and celebrates its 25th anniversary today. Machina was released in February 2000, with a follow-up album of B-sides and alternative versions – called Machina II/The Friends And Enemies Of Modern Music – dropping in September that year.
In the video, Corgan also announced that a “full-on” arena tour to celebrate Mellon Collie is in the works, but will be held in 2021 due to COVID-19. Fans were told to expect a “full production” – similar to the band’s Shiny And Oh So Bright reunion tour – complete with a “narrative arc” and an exploration of “deep cuts”.
“Eventually [we would be] able to stage all three albums as separate shows,” he added on the trilogy project.
Meanwhile, the group are readying their 11th studio album, Cyr, on 27 November. In the lead-up to the release date, they’ve dropped two singles, Cyr and The Colour Of Love.
