Soccer Mommy (Sophie Allison) has launched a new singles series, putting out two tunes alongside featured collaborators, every two weeks. Its net profits, through Bandcamp sales, will go towards Oxfam’s COVID-19 relief fund.

The first volume of the Soccer Mommy & Friends Singles Series sees Allison and LA-based songwriter Jay Som cover a song from each other’s catalogue; with Allison doing I Think You’re Alright and Jay Som performing Lucy. Take a listen below:

In a statement, Jay Som shared her thoughts on tackling Lucy. “I had an extremely fun time recording the Lucy cover,” she said, “Sophie has such a special way of entwining catchy melodies and sometimes dark chord progressions. I feel very lucky to be a part of this comp!”

On launching the series with the Jay Som, Allison wrote: “I’m super excited to kick things off with this Jay Som collab because Melina really made such an awesome new version of Lucy. I have also always loved her song I Think You’re Alright, so it was great to get a chance to cover it. It has such a sweet tenderness to it that just makes you feel warm inside.”

Future volumes of the singles series will also see Soccer Mommy collaborate with MGMT’s Andrew VanWyngarden, Beabadoobee and Beach Bunny.

It was also made known on the singles series’ Bandcamp page that an anonymous donor will be matching donations up to $5,000 for purchases of songs, which “will double the impact of your purchase”
