Jason Isbell and Sturgill Simpson join cast of new Martin Scorsese film

Musicians Jason Isbell and Sturgill Simpson have joined the cast of Martin Scorsese’s upcoming film Killers Of The Flower Moon. The two singer-songwriters join an expanding cast that includes Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro and

Despite their day-jobs as musicians, the film is neither Isbell’s nor Simpson’s feature film debut. Isbell previously had a small role in the Deadwood film, and Simpson appeared in both The Dead Don’t Die and Queen And Slim, writing the theme song for the former.

The film is set in the 1920s and examines the true story of surrounding the killings of several Osage natives. Natives amassed wealth from oil discovered on their land, leading to Osage people with claims to the wealth beginning to die. An early incarnation of the FBI became involved, and revealed a large, multi-person conspiracy to murder and steal the profits.

Isbell plays Bill Smith, the white husband of an Osage woman who is killed. Simpson plays rodeo champion and bootlegger Henry Grammer. As well as the aforementioned DiCaprio and De Niro, other cast members include Lily Gladstone, William Belleau, Tantoo Cardinal, Cara Jade Myers, JaNae Collins, and Jillian Dion.

The film follows Scorcese’s 2019 film The Irishman, and as of yet has no planned released date
