Paul McCartney has revealed that Taylor Swift changed up her release plans in order to not clash with the release of his latest solo record McCartney III – which is due out tomorrow (18 December).

Swift surprise-released Evermore, her second full-length album of 2020, last week, but this according to McCartney was planned as to “keep out of each other’s way,” as he told The Howard Stern Show.

“I did the Rolling Stone cover with Taylor Swift,” he explained “and she just emailed me recently, and she said, ‘I wasn’t telling anyone, but I’ve got another album. And she said, ‘So I was going to put it out on my birthday.’ … And then she said, ‘But I found out you were going to put [yours] out on the 10th. So I moved it to the 18th.’ And then she found out we were coming out on the 18th so she moved back to the 10th. So I mean, you know, people do keep out of each other’s way. It’s a nice thing to do.”

Today, Paul McCartney and producer Rick Rubin have also teased a brand new retrospective “documentary event”, exploring the music and history of The Beatles. The project will depict Rubin and McCartney hanging out in the studio, listening to the band and discussing their legacy.

McCartney III follows his previous two solo albums (unsurprisingly), and was written, recorded and performed by the Beatle in its entirety, when the ongoing coronavirus pandemic McCartney found himself in his studio with a lot of time on his hands and no tours booked in.
