Thurston Moore has announced a new studio album, entitled By The Fire. The project will truly begin tomorrow (20 June, the summer solstice) with the release of the first single from the album, Hashish.
Moore described Hashish as “an ode to the narcotic of love in our shared responsibility to each other during isolation.” It will be released with an accompanying music video, assembled from footage of Moore on the road and at home during the recent months of quarantine.
Speaking a statement about the new record, Moore said “These are love songs in a time where creativity is our dignity, our demonstration against the forces of oppression. By The Fire is a gathering, a party of peace — songs in the heat of the moment.”
The announcement follows the recent release of some other new music from Moore: the track May Daze, recorded alongside drummer Steve Shelley (Sonic Youth), bassist Debbie Googe (My Bloody Valentine) and guitarist James Sedward (Nøught) and the three-guitar composition Strawberry Moon.
The guitarist also recently auctioned off a heavily-gigged Sovtek Big Muff in aid of the London venue Cafe OTO, which was at risk of permanent closure due to COVID-19.
By The Fire will be released on 25 September. For more music news, click here.
