Black Sabbath guitar icon Tony Iommi will auction off a guitar from his personal collection, alongside some other signed memorabilia, in aid of the NHS, which is under considerable strain at the moment from the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Iommi announced the auction on Facebook, as well as sharing the news that the original charity event had to be cancelled due to the pandemic. He wrote in a post: “We were about to announce a charity ‘evening with Tony Iommi’ to raise some money for the Birmingham hospitals, when this awful virus struck. Now as all charitable events have been cancelled, I wanted to still do something to help. So, I’ve put a few things together of my own up for auction. All the money raised will go to the Birmingham’s Heartlands hospital charity.

“Please! I hope that you can help, they really do need our support ! Without these doctors and nurses, what would we do… we owe them so much!”

Iommi is set to auction a signed Epiphone SG, along with other memorabilia such as tour DVDs, photos and strings.

Iommi is the latest musician to raise funds for relief efforts, with other bands making donations including Metallica and Fall Out Boy. Thurston Moore has also donated an original Sovtek Big Muff, to be auctioned off in aid of the small London venue Cafe OTO.
