You might think of Paul Reed Smith as a guitar manufacturer rather than a player, but earlier in the month he showed off his skills by taking to the stage with Alter Bridge at a recent show in Maryland.

As seen in a video posted by a member of the audience to YouTube, fellow PRS artists Mark Tremonti and Myles Kennedy introduced the PRS master himself to the stage as “a legend”.

“I just want y’all to understand the gravity of the situation: in my opinion,” says Kennedy. “This guy is a legend… he is one of the great guitar gurus of all time.”

This is before PRS and the Alter Bridge crew do a special rendition of Rise Today, featuring some very nice licks from both Smith and Tremonti and Kennedy.

Those in the comments were equally surprised and excited by his sudden appearance, but real fans of the guitar brand would know that PRS is a Maryland born and bred company. It was founded in Annapolis, the capital of the state, in 1985, before moving the headquarters to Stevensville, Maryland.

“Thank you Paul for making my life happy with all my PRS guitars”, said one commenter.

Another was clearly feeling the PRS spirit by exclaiming: “And this is why PAUL is OUR GUY”.

We recently did a deep dive into the history and legacy of PRS. While a relative newcomer to the game in comparison to Gibson and Fender, while also being a one-man operation, the brand has still managed to carve a name for themselves in the electric guitar legacy.
