Sturgill Simpson has appeared on The Tonight Show, giving a performance of the bluegrass version of his track Life Of Sin – take a look above.
The song originally appeared on Simpson’s 2014 album Metamodern Sounds In Country Music, and for last year’s Cuttin’ Grass, Vol. 2: The Cowboy Arms Sessions Simpson reworked it into the bluegrass version you can hear above. This version features a full bluegrass backing band, including a fantastic solo from mandolin player Sierra Hull.
Cuttin’ Grass, Vol. 2: The Cowboy Arms Sessions arrived in December, and consisted mostly of other bluegrass reworkings from Simpsons’ back catalogue – although the song Hobo Cartoon, a collaboration with the late Merle Haggard, was previously unreleased.
Simpson’s 2019 record Sound & Fury is also nominated for a Grammy for Best Rock Album, which gained praise for its departure from Simpson’s usual style, as well as its unique presentation.
