Gibson Memphis created the guitar that journeyed beyond jazz and blues to kick-start rock and roll. Sweet but sassy, these semi hollow and hollow-body guitars continue to power today’s music with their unique tone, style, and character.
The 2016 Model Year follows tradition more faithfully than ever, while at the same time enhancing you playing and listening experience through technological advancements in wood treatment now incorporated in the Premier Series. This year also brings with it an entirely new jazz guitar based on Gibson’s rich traditions new trends in jazz. These new hollow bodies aren’t just exceptional guitars, but instruments of inspiration.
For the Historic models, Gibson Memphis continues to analyze what made certain guitars “magic” and is continuing in these improvements—like the addition of hot hide glue securing the perfect quarter sawn Adirondack bracing and exact size and shape frets. We are continuing to source vintage-style pots that are hand-matched to individual pickups, along with lightweight center-blocks.
This same attention to detail carries through to Core model improvements such as Titanium saddles in the ABR-1 bridges on all core models over the Studio, redesigned neck profile on our core ES-335s for more players comfort and stability, rolled neck binding for superior feel, more sustain with a more even tonal balance.
