If you’ve heard Snarky Puppy, you’ll know the jam band swerves from rock to R&B to jazz—often within the same song. So it’s no surprise that the group’s guitarist, Mark Lettieri, prizes gear that’s versatile enough for multiple genres. And his new signature pedal from J Rockett Audio Designs, the Melody EQ/Overdrive, is designed to do just that.

The stompbox does exactly what it says on the tin: It marries an overdrive with a six-band graphic equalizer. The overdrive itself, according to J Rockett, has a “huge gain range,” and each EQ band lets you boost or cut the frequency by 18 dB. The six bands themselves go from 100 hertz to 3.2 kilohertz.

Whether you’re using the pedal as an equalizer, a clean boost or just to mess around with your tone, the Melody EQ/Overdrive will come in useful. As Lettieri himself chuffed, “It’s the most flexible overdrive I have ever played.”

The Melody EQ/Overdrive lists for $199. For more information, check out rockettpedals.com.
