Summer NAMM 2021: Schecter has introduced a set of new metal-focused electric guitars, with some dramatic aesthetic stylings including the new Reign finish and a selection of exotic body woods. The instruments are based on the Sun Valley Super Shredder and the Apocalypse platforms.

Sun Valley Super Shredder FR S

Sun Valley Shredder

This model is a showcase for Schecter’s Reign finish, a contrasting splattery look that combines either red, blue or green with black in a way similar to a heavily-burled wood. The S in its model name dictates a sustainiac pickup system fitted in the neck, which functions almost like a built-in Ebow to infinitely sustain notes. This is joined by an EMG Retro Active Hot 70 in the bridge, and as such, the guitar has two 9V battery compartments on its rear.

Construction includes a bolt-on maple neck with a 14-inch radius ebony fretboard, and 24 Extra Jumbo frets.

Sun Valley Super Shredder Exotic Ziricote and Black Limba

A more stripped-back take on the above design, this model comes with a black limba body and an optional Ziricote top. Pickups consist of a Schecter USA Sunset Strip in the bridge and a Schecter USA Pasadena in the neck. If you opt for the Ziricote top, these come with a black cover, and if not, they come in open-coil zebra.

There’s also a double-locking vibrato and a bolt-on carbon fibre-reinforced neck, as well as a compound 12-16 inch ebony fretboard with 24 extra-jumbo frets. A left-handed version of the Black Limba model is available.

E-1 and E-7 Apocalypse Red Reign

Apocalypse

This EX-style electric guitar comes in a six- and seven-string version. Both sport two open-coil Schecter USA Apocalypse humbuckers and a hardtail, two-piece Tonepros tune-o-matic bridge. The body is made from swamp ash, and while its face is finished in Red Reign, the back bears a dark transparent finish that displays the woodgrain all the way up the neck.

The set neck in question is made from maple and padauk, with carbon fibre reinforcement rods for extra stability. It’s topped with a 12-16-inch compound radius ebony fretboard, with 24 extra-jumbo stainless steel frets. The six-string version sports a 25.5-inch scale length, while the seven-string’s measures in at 26.5 inches.

Other hardware includes locking tuners, luminlay side dots, a Graph Tech Tusq nut and gothic roman numerals for the fret markers.
