Xotic has unveiled its all-new California Classic XTC series, a custom US-made line of Telecaster-style guitars that meld vintage aesthetics with modern, premium appointments.
Body and neck
You can pick between premium ash or weight-relieved alder bodies, and a thin nitro finish that comes in light, medium, heavy and super heavy relic options. To ensure the guitars have a naturally worn-in appearance, the aging process includes authentic checking patterns and wear marks.
Each XTC instrument comes with a modern “C”-shaped roasted flame maple neck that prioritizes stability and, with a natural oil coat, playability. You can upgrade them to 5A or Master Grade tonewoods, choose between roasted flame maple and Indian rosewood fretboards, and select either 9.5- or 12-inch fingerboard radii.
Electronics and hardware
No concessions were made to the electronics and hardware, too. Xotic’s Raw Vintage USA TE single-coils yield a punchy attack, fat midrange and the twanginess that mirrors the guitar’s Tele design perfectly. And in classic Telecaster fashion, the XTC guitars have master volume and tone knobs alongside a three-way pickup selector switch.
Hardware on these guitars include Gotoh vintage locking tuners, a custom Xotic bridge with compensated brass saddles, selectable fret sizes (jumbo, medium jumbo and tall-narrow), and five pickguard options. The XTC series is available in 11 stock colours as well as nine premium finishes, and an option for matching headstocks.
Prices start at $2,500. More information at xotic.us.
