Guitar.com Live: Long associated with a Fender Stratocaster, the virtuosic blues guitarist Kenny Wayne Shepherd has teamed up once again with the company to launch his new signature model.

In an interview with Michael Watts for Guitar.com Live, Shepherd discusses the process behind the instruments creation, from colour to fretboard inlays.

“The colour never ceases to amaze me, every time I open a case. It’s such a beautiful colour, I’m really proud of it,” he enthuses.

“When we first started talking about this guitar I had this idea in my mind of what I wanted it to look like. We sat down over the course of a few meetings, I kinda laid it all out in the first one.

“I had this very beautiful light blue colour in mind, and we didn’t want to do an off the shelf colour, we wanted a custom colour. We wanted there to be a lot of special things about this guitar that you don’t get on any other run of the mill Strat.”

“What we did was take an off the shelf colour and turn it into a Custom Colour,” he reveals. “We took Sonic Blue and turned it into the transparent version on this guitar.”

A guitar player that’s worked with Fender previously on signature models, Shepherd revealed that the team agreed that they wanted this guitar to have its own identity and not be a continuation on the previous series.
