Houston, Texas will host several tribute events in honour of David Bowie this Saturday on January 11. This move is in recognition of the fourth anniversary of Bowie’s passing on January 10, 2016.
Montrose nightclub Numbers will hold its annual David Bowie celebration, which began in the same week of the artist’s passing. The event will kick-off with a screening of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars and Bowie’s 1973 performance in London. A giveaway has also been announced, with a 55” Samsung smart TV pre-loaded with Bowie videos up for grabs.
Another notable Bowie-themed event, BowiElvis Fest, will also be organised by local label Splice Records. The event pays tribute to Bowie and Elvis Presley, who both shared the same birthday (8 January). BowiElvis Fest will be held at the Continental Club and will also feature various musicians and bands performing covers of classic songs from both artists.
Shaun Brennan, CEO of Splice Records, recalled Bowie’s passing on the day after BowiElvis Fest that same year. “I have never really cried after losing one of my musical heroes but, for the next three days, I think I cried multiple times,” he said. “I am happy we had the fest right before his passing. It would have changed the whole vibe of the night from celebration to mourning, and I think Bowie would have loved it just the way it was.”
