Stephen Colbert has shared a previously unaired clip of a duet between himself and John Prine, who was recently hospitalised for COVID-19. Originally shot in 2016 for the Late Show, Colbert introduces the clip as “one of the happiest moments I’ve had on my show”.
Before they get into the tune, Colbert greets Prine, remarking oddly prophetically “we’ll probably do this for the internet, unless, you know, something terrible happens and we have to cheer up the world on the TV show”. The song they performed was Prine’s That’s The Way The World Goes Round, off his fifth album, Bruised Orange.
John Prine was hospitalised on March 26 for COVID-19. He was reported to be in “critical condition” by his family, who said that Prine was breathing with the help of a ventilator.
A recent update on the folk icon’s condition reveals that he is now in “stable condition”, though still intubated and continues to be treated for COVID-19. News of this came from his wife, Fiona Whelan Prine through a Twitter post that also reports her to have recovered from the coronavirus, of which she was first diagnosed.
I have recovered from Covid-19. We are humbled by the outpouring of love for me and John and our precious family. He is stabile. Please continue to send your amazing Love and prayers. Sing his songs. Stay home and wash hands. John loves you. I love you

COVID-19 recently took the life of Fountains Of Wayne co-founder, Adam Schlesinger, and country icon, Joe Diffie.
