Following from the release of their recent greatest hits album, The White Stripes have unveiled two new remastered live performances from 2005: My Doorbell and Dead Leaves And The Dirty Ground, recorded in September 2005 as a Live at VH1 Session, in support of their album Get Behind Me Satan.

You can take a look at both below.

The performances show a more intricate side to the blues-rock duo. The album they had just released, Get Behind Me Satan, departed somewhat from their early ethos of stripped-back recordings with little to no overdubs. Instead, it featured some external percussion, piano and marimba overlaid across Jack and Meg white’s guitar and drums respectively.

With respect to this, the two performances see both members shake up their instrumentation – for example, in Dead Leaves And The Dirty Ground, Jack White switches on the fly between piano and fuzzed-out guitar.

The White Stripes broke up in 2011. Since then, Jack White has focused on his solo material as well as his own label/pressing plant Third Man Records.
