Cort has just unveiled the new flagship instrument of its revamped X Series. The X500 is the company’s latest six-stringer, and it’s a high-end electric that won’t break the bank.

Despite its $1,099 price, the X500 boasts all the hallmarks of a premium guitar. It has fairly exotic tonewoods, quality after-market pickups, neck-through construction, and high-end hardware, and it’s tuned to a certain spectrum of playing, in this case prog, rock and metal. So expect articulate, aggressive tones from this Indonesian-made instrument.

A pair of EMG humbuckers power the X500. An EMG 60 at the neck delivers “clarity and character,” while an EMG 81 at the bridge has aperture coils that deliver “incredible amounts of high-end cut and fluid sustain,” Cort said. Combine these and the “U”-shaped maple-and-panga panga neck with a compound fretboard radius, and you have a guitar meant for blazing fast solos and tight rhythms. There’s even a Floyd Rose Special system for your dive bombs and harmonic squeals.

The X500 is available in two translucent finishes: Open Pore Jean Burst and Open Pore Trans Grey, all the better to show off the lovely grain pattern of the swamp ash used in the body.

The X500 lists for $1,099.99. For more information, check out cortguitars.com.
