The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has announced its 15-strong lineup of nominees for the class of 2024, with Ozzy Osbourne, Oasis and Jane’s Addiction all in the running.

The rest of the nominees include Foreigner, Lenny Kravitz, the Dave Matthews Band, Peter Frampton, Mary J. Blige, Mariah Carey, Cher, Eric B. & Rakim, Kool & the Gang, Sinéad O’Connor, Sade and A Tribe Called Quest.

The few who actually get inducted into the Rock Hall – usually it’s between five and seven contenders – will join a long list of famous names, including Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry and Dolly Parton, to name a mere few.

Speaking about the nominees, Rock Hall chairman John Sykes says: “This remarkable list of Nominees reflects the diverse artists and music that the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame honours and celebrates.”

Back in November, Sharon Osbourne made comments on The Adam Carolla Show about how Ozzy should be inducted into the Rock Hall as a solo artist. “He sold nearly a hundred million albums as a solo artist. So where is he? Induct him”, she said.

Although the artist was inducted in 2006 as part of Black Sabbath, this year could be the first time he takes home an induction for his independent work. Speaking about his nomination, the Rock Hall says: “Ozzy Osbourne is rock’s beloved Prince of Darkness, a key architect of heavy metal, and one of the most successful solo artists of all time.

“His voice is instantly recognisable – haunting, powerful, raw, sincere – and capable of conveying a wide array of emotions. As a live performer, he is a force of nature, with onstage charisma and showmanship unlike any other. Ozzy brings theatricality to his electrifying performances, captivating audiences with his magnetic energy and rightly earning the title Godfather of Heavy Metal”.

Inductees will be announced this April. The official ceremony will take place in Cleveland and will be available to watch via livestream on Disney+.
