Höfner has debuted a pair of Verythin semi-hollows inspired by the original Verithin body shape from 1960. Only available in the UK, these slender axes feature a body depth of 1.25 inches as well as arresting Satin Mahogany finishes.

These new Verythins are distinguishable by their stained appearances: one in black, and the other in a deep cherry-like shade simply referred to as Dark. Otherwise, both semi-hollows share identical specs, including a mahogany top, flame maple back and sides, plus a centre spruce block. The latter is designed to help you achieve “more sustain, deeper tones and less feedback”, according to Höfner.

As for electronics, each Verythin sports a pair of Höfner humbuckers. These pups can be sculpted by master volume and tone controls as well as a three-way pickup selector. Rounding out the Verythins’ features are a tune-o-matic bridge and classic Höfner f-holes.

We reviewed the Verythin CT and Classic last year, saying that the guitars combine “classic looks together with concessions to modern player needs”. The CT, our favourite of the pair, scored higher for its affordability that belies its good playability and tone.

Retails at £325 each. More info at Barnes & Mullins.
