NAMM 2020: Yamaha has launched the NX Series of nylon-string guitars, incorporating features designed to appeal to electric and steel-string guitarists. All NX guitars come with solid tops, with the NTX5 and NCX5 featuring solid European spruce.

The NTX models (NTX1, NTX3 and NTX5) come with slimmer bodies, shallower neck profiles and narrower fingerboards than regular classical guitars to encourage a more familiar playing experience. The NTX 5 also comes in both 22- and 24-fret options that extend their range beyond conventional nylon-string instruments.

For guitarists interested in a more authentic nylon-string guitar experience, the NCX models (NCX1, NCX3 and NCX5) offer a more classical-style neck profile and fingerboard, and are designed primarily for experienced nylon-string players.

The NTX3, NTX5, NCX3 and NCX5 guitars all feature Atmosfeel preamp electronics that deliver consistently balanced and natural sounds across all volumes. The Atmosfeel is supported by an integrated under-saddle piezo pickup with individual string sensors for capturing the lows and mids, along with a unique synthetic sheet transducer that captures the highs. An additional internal microphone measures overall body resonance and feeds the signal into the preamp to provide the tone with a sense of ‘airiness’. The NTX1 and NCX1 use the same integrated piezo pickup, coupled with preamps featuring three-band EQs with adjustable mids.

The Yamaha NX Series will be available in Spring 2020 with prices ranging from $740 to $3,020. For more information, click here.
