Back at NAMM 2020 we encountered Positive Grid’s revolutionary Spark smart amp, and in the months since it has become a bona fide phenomenon in the guitar world, with over 100,000 of the bijou desktop units being sold by the company.

And it’s not hard to see why – Spark is at its core a 40-watt desktop amplifier with myriad build in amp, effects and tone-shaping options (all based on Positive Grid’s hugely respected BIAS platform), but there’s so much more at play here – and it’s all down to an app.

Spark companion iOS and Android app is driven by intelligent technology that works with the amp to do some truly mind-blowing things, not least the Auto Chord feature, which pairs with your favourite music streaming platforms (including Spotify and Apple Music) and automatically analyzes and displays chords for millions of songs in real-time.

Then there’s the Smart Jam feature, where the Spark amp and app work together to learn your playing style to automatically generate bass and drum accompaniments for you to jam over. And with built-in voice control, you don’t even need to put the guitar down to fire up the song or jam style of your choice.

With all this and access to over 10,000 tones, all for just $299, it’s no surprise that Spark has rapidly developed a large and dedicated user base – in addition to 100,000 units sold, the Spark Owners Club Facebook group has swelled to 8,000 members, where glowing testimonials from happy customers are not hard to find.

“One day with my Spark and I’m very impressed. ToneCloud rocks!!” said new owner Colin R. “I’ve already learned three new songs from the chord notation. I’m looking forward to a long friendship with my Spark.”

“I’m loving this little box of tricks,” says Spark owner Tom F. “Spark does everything I need and more. I don’t have lots of amps and pedals and this is a great way to explore sounds without having to break the bank.”

But it’s not just home users who have been taken in by the charms of Positive Grid’s bijou little amp – pros are also starting to discover that the ease and versatility of Spark comes in handy no matter what your skill or experience level.

“Spark is a real game-changer when it comes to practice amps,” says Bad Wolves guitarists Doc Coyle. “I was completely stunned when I heard the quality of the tones, the ease of use when trying different amps and effects by integrating the Spark with my smartphone. The ability to use backing tracks as a practice tool puts it over top as the best product of its kind on the market.”

It’s not just for guitarists either, as Spark can be equally useful for bass players as former Whitesnake, Ozzy Osbourne and Quiet Riot bassist Rudy Sarzo attests: “The Spark amp superseded all my expectations,” he said. “It’s so much more than an amp – it’s a game-changer.”

If your interest in Spark has been piqued there’s never a better time to get on board – to celebrate reaching the 100,000 sales milestone, Positive Grid is offering new users 10% off as part of the Spark 100k Celebration between now and the 21 September 2020.

So if you want to join this rapidly growing movement and find out why thousands of fellow guitar players have had their playing lives transformed by Spark, don’t delay, get yours for just $269 while you can.
