Pedal manufacturer Mad Professor’s production line factory has been running at somewhat reduced capacity, thanks to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. However, the brand has used the time freed up to introduce a new limited run of custom pedals.

Following on from the modified Ruby Red Rooster, the brand has introduced a new mod for its Sweet Honey overdrive. The mod comes after feedback about the pedal’s bass character, as the brand says in a statement: “Everybody knows that no one pedal can marry happily with all amps.

A few times Mad Professor’s headquarters got a message that Sweet Honey Overdrive could use more bass with this and that amp.” While Mad professor had already released a ‘Deluxe’ version of the Sweet Honey, which did come with a bass control, however that bass control is acted before the drive section. The ‘Fat Bee’ mod (not to be confused with the Beetronics pedal of a similar name) adds in extra bass character after the drive circuit, meaning the character of the drive remains the same.

Harri Koski, CEO of Mad Professor said about the Sweet Honey: “The sheer dynamics of the Sweet Honey Overdrive make it one of those pedals you have to own before you die. Like a great valve amp, it cleans up when you ease off your attack on your guitars strings and then unleashes glorious harmonically rich overdrive when you dig in.”
