Morgan Amps has unveiled a new Dual 20 head amplifier. The refreshed 20-watter marries two of the brand’s more popular units – the AC20 Deluxe and Abbey – in a two-channel unit.

The amp’s two independent channels, Normal and Top Boost, both deliver all of the features of the originals. The amp achieves this with an arsenal of tubes, including two EL84s, three 12AX7s, an EF86 and a GZ34 rectifier.

The Normal channel – which features the footswitchable EF86 – is designed for a wide range of tones, from pristine cleans to vicious growls. It makes use of a bass cut and a bright switch for additional tone sculpting.

The Top Boost channel, on the other hand, leans towards “Tom Petty and Beatles tones”, according to the brand. To achieve that, it has extra bass and treble controls, as well as an additional gain stage.

In addition to the two sets of channel controls, the Dual 20 also sports a global cut control which skims off high-ends to set the ideal level of chime.

One other highlight worth nothing is the Power Level control, which also features on other Morgan amps. This handy function is designed to reduce amp output levels – from 20 watts to a quarter of a watt – without sacrificing tone. According to Morgan, the Power Level control allows the amplifier to behave identically to as it would at full volume.

Available from 7 June. More info at morganamps.com.
