OPFXS has announced its latest pedal, the Asteroide. The unit combines various different functions to create a unique textured sound that doubles or harmonises with your playing.

When using the pedal, press the ‘sample’ footswitch, and the pedal will capture that note, as well as the note one octave down from what you play. This is then kept in the pedal, and played back with the same volume envelope as your playing. You can control the mix of the fundamental note and the octave down with knobs on the face of the pedal, as well as tweak the upper harmonics.

Essentially, it’s a freeze pedal that, instead of producing a drone, produces a pedal note that’s played at the same rhythm as whatever you play following the capture. This means it can be used to create accompanying bass lines – great for solo players who want to avoid using loop pedals. It can also be used to create strange, harmonically-rich textures, especially when combined with some distortion and delay. To hear it in action, take a look at OPFXS’ demo below.

The pedal lists for €180. Find out more at opfx.com.
