PRS unveils the new limited-edition Lunar Ice Silver Sky
The limited-edition finish dynamically shifts hue as you look at if from different angles.

PRS has announced a new limited-edition version of the Silver Sky, finished in “Flip-Flop” Lunar Ice. The guitar, a signature model designed in collaboration with John Mayer, comes with all of the trimmings the original Silver Sky is known for.

The guitar’s alder body sports a bolt-on maple neck and fretboard. Notably, the highly-requested maple fretboard is a Silver Sky option that was introduced for the first time at NAMM last year. The vintage 7.25-inch radius ‘board is inlaid with PRS’ Small Birds inlays, and is fitted with 22 frets. The guitar runs at a 25.5-inch scale length, with a six-staddle vintage-style steel tremolo at one end and a bone nut at the other.
Other appointments include a curved, molded metal jack plate, retooled volume and tone knobs, vintage-style locking tuners, and a double-action truss rod.
Electronically, the guitar is fitted with a trio of 635JM single-coils, controlled by a 5-way blade switch, a single volume control and a pair of tone controls. PRS describes the 635JM’s sound as “round and full” with enough high-end for a musical clarity, but never enough to sound like an ice-pick.
The star of the show, however, is, of course, PRS’ new Lunar Ice “Flip-Flop” finish. This reflects light in different hues and amount from different angles, meaning a dynamic finish that will shift and change, especially while being played on stage.
