Robben Ford shows off upcoming PRS signature model with oversized headstock
Ford says the oversized headstock was partly inspired by the CBS-era Fender Stratocasters.

Robben Ford has shown off what appears to be a prototype of a new signature PRS electric guitar. The instrument sports several unique features, including pickups adorned with Ford’s personal seal, a larger headstock and more.
The veteran guitarist offered fans a first look at the instrument in a minute-long video shared to Instagram on Saturday (26 June). “We’re hoping this is the completed version of the guitar that Paul Reed Smith has made for me,” he said.
Ford’s PRS electric featured an oversized headstock that he said was inspired by those of the CBS-era Fender Stratocasters, plus a control section that sports a pickup splitter switch, two knobs (likely for master volume and tone) and a three-way pickup selector.
Meanwhile, the truss rod cover is engraved with Ford’s name and the guitar’s two humbuckers imprinted with his personal seal. We can also see PRS’ signature bird inlays atop what looks to be an ebony fretboard and a black finish throughout the guitar.
For now, it’s uncertain if the PRS Robben Ford signature model is just a one-off build for the guitarist or something we’ll see on the shelves soon.
Ford’s previous signature model was produced in Japan by Fender between 1987 and 1993. The guitar – based on the Fender Esprit Ultra – featured a chambered alder body, spruce top and ebony fretboard. Ford could be seen holding one on the cover of his 1998 album, Talk To Your Daughter.
