Gibson has pulled the curtains off a new Les Paul Junior that bears Billie Joe Armstrong’s name. And as you’d expect from the Green Day frontman, his new signature instrument is fuss-free and powerful.

Available in three colors—Ebony, Maraschino Red and Sonic Blue—this is a classic Les Paul Jr with a few modern touches. Where Armstrong’s previous signature model featured the H-90 pickup, this one uses a single zebra ’57 Classic humbucker. It gives the guitar a vintage warmth, but with enough bite to get you through any punk anthem.

Besides the pickup, the iconic single-cutaway slab mahogany body remains to provide that sweet sustain. And the mahogany neck with 12-inch-radius rosewood fingerboard will make power chords and quick licks a breeze. The pickguard on this model, however, is bigger and in a different shape from its predecessor.

There are only master “Volume” and “Tone” controls on this Les Paul Junior, just like when the model debuted in 1954. And no surprises where the wraparound bridge and vintage style tuners are concerned either.
