Watch: This is what EVH’s Eruption sounds like played on Stylophones
One of the oddest tributes to the late guitarist.

A YouTuber has shared their take on the late Eddie Van Halen‘s seminal guitar instrumental Eruption, with a twist: it’s played on a pair of Stylophones.
Maro Maro took on the EVH classic with two Dubreq Stylophones, offering the video as a tribute to “one of the greatest guitar players on the planet”. The YouTuber is known for covering classic rock tunes with the pocket-sized monosynth, which only has 20 available notes.
“I know that some of you may think that I’m doing a lame parody of this song or poking fun at Eddie… But no, actually I’m heartbroken because one of my guitar idols is dead,” Maro Maro wrote in the video’s description box.
Van Halen’s Eruption, the second track of the band’s 1978 self-titled debut album, is widely considered one of the greatest guitar solos of all time, and is credited with popularising the two-handed tapping technique.
Maro Maro said that adapting the challenging tune to the Stylophone brought along its own challenges: “It’s cut into three parts because I had to tune the Stylophones differently for every part of this solo. I know that the last parts are a bit sloppy but seriously it couldn’t be done better… So, sorry for some mistakes here and there.”
Eddie Van Halen died on 6 October at the age of 65, following a six-year battle with cancer. Artists from Tony Iommi to Lenny Kravitz have paid tribute to the late guitar icon online.
