Avant Garde guitarist and musician Glenn Branca’s new album, The Third Ascencion, has been announced.
In February 2016 Branca played a body of work titled The Third Ascencion at New York’s experimental venue The Kitchen, stretched over two nights. Now, he’s chosen to release the recordings from those shows into a new long player, conveniently also called The Third Ascencion.
The forthcoming album marks the first release from Branca since his death in 2018. It arrives October 4 via SYSTEMS NEUTRALIZERS.
Written for four guitars, bass, and drums, Branca utilised this very same compositional structure on his legendary 1981 release The Ascension and his 2010 release The Ascension: The Sequel.
To coincide with the release of The Third Ascension, the Glenn Branca Ensemble will perform Branca’s works for at Saint Vitus in Brooklyn on October 6, on what would have been Branca’s 71st birthday. It will be their first performance together since his passing.
