The Isle of Wight festival’s organisers have announced that it will no longer be going ahead this year.

The news comes alongside the cancellation of other UK festivals Download and Glastonbury, following increases in social distancing measures. The Isle of Wight festival was due to take place between 11 and 14 June, with headline sets from Lionel Richie, Lewis Capaldi, Snow Patrol, The Chemical Brothers and Duran Duran.

In a statement on their website and on Twitter, the organisers said that “this decision hasn’t been taken lightly and we have tried our hardest to make it work, but it was unavoidable given the current status. The whole team was excited to welcome everyone to the island for another fantastic festival and we extend our sincere apologies to everyone who was looking forward to it as much as we were.”

Similar to Download, ticket holders will be contacted by their point of sale for a ticket refund, or carry it over to next year’s festival.

They also directed anyone who had booked ferry travel to go to this page on their website for more information.

The festival joins countless others to be cancelled or postponed due to the outbreak, including SXSW and Coachella.
