Liam Gallagher would rather “listen to two foxes shagging in the bushes at 5:30am” than listen to the Cure

When fans instructed the Oasis frontman to check out The Cure’s new record, Liam shrugged it off: “I’m not depressed.”

Liam Gallagher has always had a way with words. From deeming Radiohead and Coldplay fans to be “boring and ugly” to calling The BeatlesGeorge Harrison a “nipple”, the Oasis frontman is reliably insightful when voicing his musical opinions.

The Cure are the latest band to receive some less-than-complimentary words from Liam. When asked on X if he dislikes the goth rock legends, he politely explains: “I don’t hate them. I’d just rather listen to 2 foxes shagging in the bushes at 5.30 am.”

The response came shortly after Liam was told by a fan to “listen to The Cure”. In typical Liam fashion, he didn’t mince his words. “I’m not depressed,” he wrote.

It’s not the first time Liam has expressed his belief that Robert Smith tends to appeal to depressive fans. Back in September he branded the band’s fans as “a bunch of moths”.

He’s also insinuated that there’s something he doesn’t quite understand about gothic tendencies. In response to fans messaging him about The Cure’s goth fans being “cool”, he replied “I have a goth friend and she’s not right in the head, very strange.”

Liam seems to be alone in his opinion, however. His brother, Noel Gallagher, happily worked alongside Robert Smith just last year on a remix of the High Flying Birds track, Pretty Boy.

“Because the song sounds like The Cure I was like, ‘Does Robert Smith do remixes?’” Noel explained to NME at the time. “I got hold of his email, the first line was, ‘Hi Robert, it’s Noel Gallagher’. I thought at that point he’d go, ‘Fuck that c**t’. He emailed back with, ‘Send me the track.’”

Of course, people were surprised to hear the Mancunian was working alongside Smith. We wouldn’t be surprised to hear that Liam was among the more shocked responses. “When I told people they were like, ‘You like The Cure?’” Noel said. “I was like, ‘Yeah, just because you like The Cure doesn’t mean you have to fucking wear lipstick!’”
