Marcus King has announced Four Of A Kind, a livestream performance series to benefit MusiCare’s COVID-19 relief fund. The four-episode series streams live from Nashville, and will feature guest artists from the likes of Billy Strings, Brent Hinds of Mastodon and Devon Gilfillian.

Kicking off on 13 July, episode one of Four Of A Kind opens with King and his band performing his 2020 album El Dorado in its entirety.

Flatpicking wizard Billy Strings and singer Maggie Rose join King for a jam-centric second episode on 20 July, while the third episode invites Brent Hinds of Mastodon for a more rock-oriented performance with King and his trio.

The final episode of the series sees King perform The Last Waltz alongside a host of guest performers, including Jennifer Hartswick, Gilfillian, Nicki Bluhm, Elizabeth Cook, Sierra Ferrell, Early James, Ida Mae, and Rose.

Tickets to the event are available on King’s website, priced at $10 for a single show, or $30 dollars for all four nights. Sales proceeds will be donated to MusiCare, but additionally, Spotify’s COVID-19 Music Relief project will match contributions up to a total of $10million.

In a statement, King spoke of putting on the upcoming livestream, calling it a “welcomed challenge” for himself and the band.

“After a few months off the road and some time to recuperate, we want to get together and make some music. It is all very new to us, performing with no audience and still trying to bring the same energy as a full live show,” he said.

“We chose MusicCare as our charity for the event based on the amount of love and effort they have poured into the music community in times of need.”

Shows take place live at 8 p.m. central time, or can be downloaded for later viewing up to 11 August.

Last month, King teamed up with Gibson to deliver virtual music lessons to child patients served by the Children’s Cancer Association’s MyMusicRx program amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
