Al Di Meola (born July 22, 1954) started his career in 1974 with Return to Forever. Known for his jazz fusion and Mediterranean-influenced guitar work, he plays acoustic and electric guitars. Key albums include Land of the Midnight Sun (1976), Elegant Gypsy (1977), and Friday Night in San Francisco (1980). He received an honorary doctorate from Berklee College of Music in 2018.
