In-the-flesh guitar shows, masterclasses and clinics are off the cards for the time being, but don’t worry – Guitar.com Live has a smorgasbord of star-studded lessons and masterclasses. You won’t want to miss these lessons, as some six-string legends will be diving into the nitty-gritty details of their techniques.

Exclusive Masterclass with Marty Friedman – Live from Japan

The legendary Marty Friedman will be giving an exclusive masterclass at Guitar Live, giving an insight into his laser-accurate approach to metal guitar. Having played on some of the most influential metal albums of all time, he’s not all aggressive riffs and face-melting solos – his playing is some of the most emotive, uplifting and soulful there is, inside the world of metal or outside it.

Friedman will be diving into his unique and soulful approach to the instrument, which includes his incredibly accurate right-hand picking.

Jared James Nichols on Tone and Technique

Jared James Nichols’ fiery launch into the blues-rock scene is no fluke – the control he has over his instrument is impressive, and even more so when you realise he does all that without a pick. The right tone for blues is essential, and Nichols will also be covering how he draws out such tremendous Blues Power from a single P90 and barely and pedals.

The Keys to Colorful Guitar Playing: A Masterclass with Justus West

Justus West’s playing spans many monikers – ethereal, emotive, expressive and of course colourful. He’s dropping in at Guitar.com Live to give some insights into how he approaches playing guitar. His ear for music extends far beyond the six-string, too – he’s a two-time Grammy-nominated producer, who’s worked with artists such as Ariana Grande, Ty $, Alicia Keys, Mac Miller, Snoop Dogg and many more. So tune in to find out what makes his production and playing so sought after.

Funk it up with Jay Leonard J

Funk rhythm players seem to come from another universe, one where humans evolved without any bones in their hands or any boundaries to their spanky, percussive guitar playing – and Jay Leonard J is no exception, attacking his strings to produce what sounds like an entire drum kit. Tuning up your funk chops is a great idea for any guitar player – even if you’re not into funk, a solid sense grasp of the rhythmic aspects of playing is always handy. So tune in for a deep dive into his approach.

Shred for Success with Mrs Smith

Shred is far from dead, as a listen to Mrs Smith’s playing will tell you. She’ll be doing a live masterclass, and taking questions beforehand – so if there’s anything you want to know about shred guitar, tune in and find out how to divebomb, tap, sweep pick and more.

Guitar.com Live won’t just showcase lessons, either – there’s a lot to look forward to, including new product launches, live panels from industry experts and a downright futuristic spin on the virtual guitar show.

Be sure to sign up over at Guitar.com/live for exclusive updates before the show, and come along 2-4 October to catch the lessons above!
