Details surrounding his death have come to light.

Oli Herbert, founding guitarist of Massachusetts metal band All That Remains, has died at age 44. A cause of death has not been officially announced, but Billboard has reported that his body was found in a pond near his Connecticut home.

News of his passing was announced on the band’s instagram page on Wednesday morning. “We were devastated to learn that Oli Herbert, our friend, guitar player, and founding member of All That Remains, has passed away,” the band said in the post. “Oli was an incredibly talented guitarist and songwriter who defined Rock and Metal from the Northeast. His impact on the genres and our lives will continue indefinitely.”

Herbert founded All That Remains with ex-Shadows Fall vocalist Phil Labonte in 1998. Over the span of the following 20 years, he worked on all of the band’s nine records, including Victim of the New Disease, which is due to arrive on November 9.
