BOSS has transformed 8 of its effects pedals into plugins – and they’re available now on Roland Cloud
The new plugins have transformed the SD-1 Super Overdrive, OD-1 Overdrive, PH-1 Phaser and more into digital form.

Back in January, Roland launched a plugin version of its classic JC-120 Jazz Chorus guitar amp – but the company isn’t stopping there. Now, a selection of Boss pedals have undergone the Roland plugin treatment.
Eight signature Boss stompboxes are now available exclusively on Roland Cloud. This includes the era-defining SD-1 Super Overdrive, as well as the OD-1 OverDrive, PH-1 Phaser, SP-1 Spectrum, SG-1 Slow Gear, CS-1 Compression Sustainer, TW-1 T Wah, and DS-1 Distortion.

Boss has committed itself to recreating the same sound and response as the physical pedals. As a result, the plugins deliver an “authentic Boss compact pedal experience”. Roland promises a “premium” standard of processing for guitar, keyboards, vocals, and more.
While extended features are available, such as input and output controls and tempo sync, their interfaces keep things simple. After all, the pedals on which they are modelled have been comfortably capturing great tones with a limited selection of knobs for decades. The unextended interface replicates the minimal controls on the original hardware – because if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
While the initial launch is already bursting with great Boss pedals, Roland is teasing more pedals in the future. In fact, the company promise that the library will boast an “ever-expanding selection of models” in the coming years.
The BOSS Effects Pedals plugins can be accessed by anyone with a Roland Cloud Ultimate membership.
A Roland Cloud Ultimate membership costs $19.99 a month, or $199 for a year. Users can also get a 30-day all-access trial. Alternatively, you can sign up for a free Roland account to experiment with function-limited demo version of the pedal plugins.
