Dynamo Amplification has announced the Flight Rig, a hybrid amplifier designed with a focus on portability.

The Flight Rig’s preamp stage is an all-tube design, loaded with four 12AX7s. Its power amp section is solid-state, with 100 watts on tap The amp is two-channel, with a clean/crunch channel and a lead channel. Each sports its own gain, volume, treble, mid and bass control. There’s also master Sonic Enhancer presence and depth controls.

The amplifier’s enclosure is rack-mount-compatible, and so can be loaded into any standard rack-mount flight case or similar. The unit weighs in at 12 kilograms (27lbs). The design focus on portability came from Dynamo Amplifications research done with touring musicians. It found that modern tour schedules have more dates where artists need to fly out to venues such as festivals, casinos and cruise ships – hence more and more artists are using floorboard-only rigs. Dynamo is hoping to provide an analogue alternative with the Flight Rig, striking a balance between tone and portability.
