NAMM 2020: Warwick has announced the LTD 2020 bass guitar, a high-end instrument available in both four- and five-string configurations. The model is available in two main editions: Masterbuilt and Teambuilt. The first is built in the Warwick Custom Shop in Markneukirchen/Germany, while the latter is made in Warwick’s German factory.
The Masterbuilt comes with some more premium appointments, such as the headstock matching the body’s highly figured Mahogany Burl, with a natural satin finish. The wenge neck, with mahogany veneer stripes, is connected to the body in what Warwick calls a “hidden neck-through” construction. Making use of almost the full 34-inch scale length, the wild mahogany fretboard is equipped with 26 bronze frets and abalone dot inlays.
Other features include Graphtech Ratio machine heads, gold hardware, Just a Nut III Brass nut, active MEC J/J pickups with brushed metal covers, active 2-way electronics, a two-piece bridge and S-Security straplocks.
The accompanying “Made in Germany” Teambuilt Thumb LTD 2020 features a mahogany body, with a one-inch mahogany burl top. The laminated Ovangkol neck is bolt-on instead of nuck-through, and has 24 as opposed to 26 frets. Warwick machine heads replace the Masterbuilt’s Graphtech tuners, and a Just a Nut III Tedur nut replaces its brass equivalent. The bass has the same active MEC J/J pickups (with plastic covers rather than metal), electronics, two-piece Warwick bridge and S-Security straplocks.
Both versions can be ordered as a four or five string, right- or left-handed instrument. The prices for the models are as follows:
- Thumb LTD 2020 BO Teambuilt 4 string $3,790
- Thumb LTD 2020 BO Teambuilt 5 string $3,990
- Thumb NT LTD 2020 Masterbuilt 4 string $6,590
- Thumb NT LTD 2020 Masterbuilt 5 string $6,990
Worldwide there will be only 25 copies of the masterbuilt, and 100 of the teambuilt. They will be on display at Winter NAMM 2020. Find out more at warwickbass.com.
