Solar Guitars, Ola Englund’s brand of metal-focused electric guitars, has announced a new line of bass guitars – a first for the brand.

The AB2 series basses, as the name implies, come in Solar’s A shape – the brand’s extreme S-type, with deep cutaways and sharp top and bottom horns.

They come in both 4- and 5-string variants, with the 4-string versions sporting a 34-inch scale and the 5-strings sporing a 35-inch scale. The bolt-on neck is C-shaped, and finished in satin, sporting an ebony fretboard and 24 super-jumbo frets. The neck itself is five-piece, constructed from maple and jatoba, while the body is swamp ash. Hardware includes a high-mass bridge and a set of high-ratio Solar tuners, and is matte-black across the board.

In terms of electronics, there are two Solar dual-coil pickups and a proprietary preamp, offering control of volume, balance, bass and treble. The available finishes include aged natural matte for the 5-string version, and roasted brown matte and open-pore black matte for the 4-string version.

The basses list for €699 (4-string) and 849 (5-string). Find out more at solar-guitars.com.
